On 21st March, the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the British American Business Council held its Spring Economic Luncheon at the World Trade Center in Seattle. The expert panel of speakers included Ian Toner, Chief Investment Officer for Verus; Stephen Lerch, Ph.D., Chief Director & Chief Economist for the Washington State Economic & Revenue Forecast Council; and Ivan Oscar Asensio, Ph.D., Senior VP of FX Risk Advisor for HSBC Global Markets. Financial Times West Coast Editor, Richard Waters, served as moderator. The event, which was sponsored by BABC-PNW member Verus, was well attended with 50 participants from the greater Seattle business community. Key discussions took place on economic patterns and forcasts, the affects to business, and the booming conditions in the US and Northwest region. Notable dialogue centered around Washington state’s economy – which Dr. Lerch reported is presently performing better than the US economy - the changing environment of employment and available jobs worldwide, the importance of open trade flows for the region, and economic impacts pre-and-post Brexit.
